They were among the golden girls at the London 2012 Olympics who proved being a sports woman can be cool as well as glamorous.
Now Olympians Jessica Ennis and Victoria Pendleton have cemented their status further by over-taking top male sportsmen like Usain Bolt and David Beckham as the most searched sports stars of 2012.
Jessica Ennis topped Yahoo's list following her amazing year in which she was crowned the Olympic champion at heptathlon in spectacular style. She's gone on to win numerous awards and been nominated as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Sisters are doing it for themselves: Jessica Ennis, left, and Victoria Pendleton were the first and third most searched sports stars of 2012 according to Yahoo
Meanwhile, cyclist Victoria Pendleton added to her medal collection in London's velodrome with another gold and silver and then went on to raise her profile further by appearing on BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.
The pair were separated in the top three by Andy Murray – another Olympic hero – who had the best year of his career in 2012. He was the first British man in decades to make the Wimbledon final, where he lost to Roger Federer, but bounced back to win Olympic gold and his first grand slam in New York.
Olympic champion: Ennis achieved her dream of gold at London 2012
Success: Pendleton added another gold and silver medal to her collection this year
While footballers usually dominate newspaper sports pages, in Yahoo's search only one made the top five – Fabrice Muamba, who collapsed on the pitch while playing for Bolton in March following a cardiac arrest. He had life-saving treatment after his heart-stopped beating and has since made an astonishing recovery.
Ace year: The second most searched sports star was Andy Murray who reached the Wimbledon final and won Olympic gold and his first grand slam in 2012
Three other footballers – David Beckham, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – also made the top ten but their popularity dwindled behind another Olympian, Tom Daley, despite the European Football Champs also taking place in 2012 before the Olympics.
Making headlines: Tom Daley was the fifth most searched while Fabrice Muamba was the only footballer to make the top five

A third woman also made the top ten, tennis player Maria Sharapova, who had a return to form this year.
After an incredible 2012, Ennis is looking to continue her success in 2013 by seeking to reclaim her World Champs title in Russia next summer.
It will also be a special year for the athlete as she'll finally tie the knot with her fiance of two-and-a-half-years, Andy Hill.
Pendleton will also walk up the aisle next summer as she marries former coach Scott Gardner.
But we won't see any more of her sporting endeavours as she announced her retirement from professional cycling after the Olympics.
