Make-up as art: But who will be brave enough to wear these incredible crab, caviar and baked bean inspired lipstick designs
18:01 GMT, 3 December 2012
From crabs and caviar to a gothic take on snow, these intricately beautiful lip designs are a million miles away from plain old pink. Making the most of glitter, gold leaf and a whole rainbow of colours, the designs are the work of would-be make-up artists at New College in Worcestershire.
Photographed by fashion and beauty snapper, Alistair Cowin, the stunning work came about after Cowin approached Ruth Hancox, New College's head of beauty, with an idea for a collaboration.
Students would execute weird and wonderful designs, which Cowin would capture in all their glory. The attraction, Alistair says, was the
chance to work with the next generation of make-up artists and 'push
their creative boundaries'.
The idea was for each lip to tell a story, using texture, colour, light and shade to motivate unique moods and thoughts. The exercise raised particular difficulties for the students involved, who had to take onboard Alistair's tips regarding the relationship between the beauty photographer and the make-up artist.
So are the designs beautiful or just strange Take a look and decide.
