Actor Simon Morris, 42, pictured, pretended he suffered from sexsomnia after raping a 15-year-old girl at a house party

An actor who pretended to suffer from sexsomnia after he raped a 15-year-old girl has been jailed for eight years today.

Simon Morris, who appeared in the West End, a movie with acting legend Michael Caine and in the soap Hollyoaks, pretended he had no memory of having sex with the teenager and said he was sleepwalking.

But the prosecution said it was a 'feeble excuse' and the judge told Morris, 42, he had told 'an endless number of glib lies' during the trial.

The prosecution said Morris 'took an interest' in the girl at a birthday party and helped her pour champagne for guests before sneaking into the room where she sleeping at 6am and raped her.

Judge Daniel Williams told Morris at Cardiff Crown Court: 'I do not accept that you do not recollect the attack.

'[The jury] saw through your lies and saw through you.

'You were unrelenting in your pursuit of your victim. You tried to chat her up, boasting about your career in acting.

'You played the role of nice guy and you deployed the acting skills you boasted about.

'But there is another side to you – a side that you are unable to recognise how your victim was drunk and vulnerable.

'Your defence was that you were asleep. You have shown no remorse and the only thing that has burdened you is self-pity.'

Prosecutor Sue Ferrier said Morris pursued the girl and winked at her, helped her pour the drinks and offered her to stay with him in London.

She said: 'The girl got drunk on cocktails and her father put her to sleep in an upstairs room.

'The girl’s father tried to wake his daughter at 6am to go home, but as she was fast asleep he left her in the bed for the night.

Morris raped the teenager at a party after she had been put to bed by her father. The prosecutor told the court that Morris had winked at the girl and asked her to stay with him in London during the party

He was examined at the Edinburgh Sleep Centre and director of the centre psychologist Chris Dzikowski said he could not exclude the disorder.

He told the court: 'I placed electrodes on his head to monitor his sleep patterns in the laboratory.

'He sat up and moved unusually, grinded his teeth and had noticeable and sharp hand movements.

'I found that the features were consistent with sleepwalking.

'It is a possibility that in this case he was suffering from sexsomnia – I cannot exclude it.'

But the jury found him guilty of rape by a majority of 10-2 and unanimously guilty of assault by penetration.

Morris appeared in the Michael Caine film Shiner in 2000 and TV soap Hollyoaks in 2001.

He also appeared on the West End stage in his acting career between 1996 and 2006.

He later set up a consultancy firm which has since folded and he has also acted as an escort to celebrities.

Morris, of Rush Hill Road, London, blew a kiss to his girlfriend Helen Cole as he was led to the cells.

He was jailed for eight years and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
